Thora Chamberlain went missing during a time when the people of the United States were unusually optimistic. Back in 1945, World War II had ended, and people were excited about the future. Fourteen-year-old Thora and a group of her girlfriends were on their way to a high school football game when a car pulled up beside them. The man driving the car said he needed a babysitter for about a half hour. Thora accepted the job and got into the car. She was never seen again.

Join us at the quiet end for The Abduction of Thora Chamberlain. The primary suspect in Thora’s abduction was Thomas Henry McMonigle, a San Mateo, California resident with an arrest record going back to his teens, who moved out of the area after her disappearance. But Thora’s body was never recovered, so prosecuting McMonigle was a complicated process involving the collaboration of state and federal law enforcement.
