About the Brewery

FX Matt, a German immigrant, reorganized the Bierbauer Brewery in Utica, NY, to form the West End Brewing Company in 1888. They survived Prohibition by producing Utica Club soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages. In 1985 they introduced the Saranac line of beers, and in 1993 introduced the first beer variety pack. The third and fourth generation of Matts are now running the brewery.
