Gregory Adams was the 31-year-old police chief of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, and a nine-year veteran of law enforcement back in 1980. Saxonburg, a rural town, had a population of just 1300, so he was the only full-time officer. On December 4, Adams made a routine traffic stop in the parking lot of the local Agway Feed Store. He used his patrol car to stop the suspect by blocking the parking lot exit. This didn’t seem different than any other day on patrol, but when Adams asked the suspect for his driver’s license, he attacked and shot Adams to death.
